HUAWEI P9: Leica Dual Cameras

In May 2016, HUAWEI introduced two flagship smartphones as part of its P9 series, namely the HUAWEI P9 and HUAWEI P9 Plus. Both were the first HUAWEI phones to offer two rear cameras, for which HUAWEI had partnered with renowned German camera-maker, Leica.

The HUAWEI P9 featured a 5.2-inch full-HD LCD screen, and was launched with 3GB and 4GB RAM variants; while the HUAWEI P9 Plus was slightly larger with a 5.5-inch full HD Super AMOLED panel, and came with 4GB RAM.

The HUAWEI P9 and P9 Plus made over 10 million shipments worldwide, marking a significant milestone for HUAWEI.
HUAWEI P10: Pushing the boundaries in smartphone photography

By the time the HUAWEI P10 series was launched in February 2017, the world already knew the P-series as unrivalled in terms of smartphone photography, and was eagerly anticipating the latest upgrade in the flagship lineup.

The HUAWEI P10 did not disappoint. Its dual Leica cameras (12MP RGB + 20MP monochrome) allowed a more dynamic depth of field effect, which works especially well for bokeh portrait photos.

It also had a Pro Mode which enabled photos to be taken and saved as raw files, giving more room for edits.

In terms of device security, the fingerprint scanners were moved to the front. HUAWEI also included 3-D facial detection technology.

The P10 series of smartphones were powered by HUAWEI’s own Kirin 960 SoC 64-bit-octa-core processor. The HUAWEI P10 came with 4GB of RAM, while the P10 Plus had 4GB and 6GB RAM variants.
HUAWEI P20: Propelled by AI technology

When the HUAWEI P20 Series was launched in March 2018, HUAWEI’s P-series had already become synonymous with great photography functions and beautiful design. The P20 Series exceeded expectations and was lauded by reviewers across the globe as the top smartphone camera.

The HUAWEI P20 Series came with an additional camera, making it three – and the HUAWEI P20 Pro was the first smartphone to have a triple-camera system: a 40MP (RGB, F/1.8 aperture), an 8MP (telephoto, F/2.4 aperture) and a 20MP (monochrome, F/1.6 aperture). With selfies and wefies trending, the front camera was also upgraded to 24MP (F/1.7 aperture).

Propelled by AI technology, the HUAWEI P20’s noteworthy features included the 3x optical zoom and 5x hybrid zoom technology, which will be pushed to the extreme in the next generation, the P30 series. The HUAWEI P20 series was equipped with Kirin 970 chipset, fast battery charging and long battery life.

HUAWEI P30: Shooting for the moon, landing among the stars

HUAWEI took its smartphone capabilities to the next level when it launched the HUAWEI P30 series in Paris, France, in March 2019. The challenge: take a picture of the moon using the HUAWEI P30 Pro’s 50x Super Zoom.

The periscope-style camera system is part of the HUAWEI P30 Pro 's amazing rear quad camera setup, which includes a 40MP (main, wide-angle), a 20MP (ultra wide-angle), an 8MP (telephoto lens) and a ToF sensor, supported by AI technology. With this powerful camera setup, the HUAWEI P30 Pro was for a time, the only smartphone in the market to offer 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom and 50x digital zoom.

Using an RYYB (Red Yellow Yellow Blue) sensor instead of the traditional RGB (Red Green Blue) sensor, the HUAWEI P30 Pro’s cameras were able to take in more light and was a game-changer for photography in low-light environments.

The HUAWEI P30 Pro came with up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage – coming a long way since the P1 Ascend which only had 1GB RAM. The P30 series was powered by an upgraded HUAWEI’s Kirin 980 64-bit-octa-core processor.
